Hyundai Takes High Performance Approach to Super Bowl XLVI Marketing Campaign

Bulletin

“In developing this year’s in-game creative, we recognized the brand has built a strong reputation for great value, fuel economy, warranty, safety and quality – all the rational attributes for buying a vehicle. Typically, Hyundai hasn’t been top-of-mind with shoppers looking for performance and modern design – attributes that inspire an emotional connection,” said Steve, Shannon, vice president of Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “However, the just-announced Veloster Turbo and restyled Genesis Coupe R-Spec supply the lineup with plenty of performance credentials for a youthful audience looking to complement great design and features with cars that are fun to drive.”

Hyundai’s Super Bowl commitment includes the coveted pre-kick time slot, literally seconds before the game begins. Hyundai has developed a very important 60-second spot which truly highlights Hyundai’s motivation to succeed. The spot, titled “All For One,” reveals what drives Hyundai and its employees to relentlessly pursue making the best products possible.

Hyundai’s founding chairman, Chung Ju-Yung, inspired this ad with his regular response when told challenges were too great to overcome. He simply asked: “Have you tried?” Inspired by the words of determination and encouragement, the spot captures the spirit that drives Hyundai. Against the backdrop of an iconic, internationally recognized song (“Gonna Fly Now” from the movie “Rocky” written by Bill Conti, Carol Connors and Ayn Robbins), Hyundai team members hum and sing along, demonstrating teamwork and encouragement when a co-worker needs a little support.

The ad features almost 200 actual Hyundai team members, trained by a vocal coach, and was filmed at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, in Montgomery, Ala., which produces more than 300,000 Sonata and Elantra sedans each year. View the spot and “making of” video here:

Finally, to round out the game-day lineup, Hyundai will celebrate its 2012 North American Car of the Year victory for Elantra with a new 30-second spot called “Victory Lap.” The Elantra earned the prestigious award from a jury of 50 independent automotive media in early January. “Faster Acting” showcases the new 429-horsepower Genesis R-Spec sedan and furthers the theme of performance which bridges the pre-game spots with the in-game ads.

Article: Google+ Optimization vs. Community Building – Pros and Cons of Google SPYW

Google+ Optimization vs. Community Building – Pros and Cons of Google SPYW
http://www.toprankblog.com/2012/01/google-optimization-vs-community-building-pros-and-cons-of-google-spyw/

Initially I looked at Google+ the same as other Google social projects like Wave and Orkut. But the more I use Google+ the more I like it. Maybe it’s the network effect because others are using it more too. I often find content and insights shared on G+ that I don’t find elsewhere.

While the addition of Google Search Plus Your World (SPYW) has made a big splash in the digital community, I actually think G+ is far more useful (from a personal perspective) as a social network than it is as an augmentation of search on Google.com. When I put my Marketer’s hat on, of course it doesn’t matter what I think of G+ – the task is to figure out how to optimize opportunities to gain an advantage.

There’s been no shortage of commentary about G+ and SPYW but I think there are a few pros and cons that are worth exploring.

Google+ Pros:

As a social network, there are inherent social engagement benefits of Google+.  The Google+ shares, pluses, comments and overall interaction behaviors necessary to improve Google+ inspired search visibility also benefit social network development and community engagement. Starting with SEO and Google+ seems a little backwards to me compared to leveraging it first as a social network.

So You Married An Entrepreneur

So You Married An Entrepreneur
http://charlestlee.com/entrepreneurship/so-you-married-an-entrepreneur/

Why, yes you did.

You married an entrepreneur.

You married an unending source of ideas and passion…the eternal optimist.

You may not have known it at the time, but you agreed to travel down an ever-changing path of life.

In fact, you’re probably traveling down multiple paths at once.

You married a person who considers sleep as optional.

How about money? Oh yeah, that thing that entrepreneurs periodically think about.

Yes, there will be countless moments when your spouse appears unfocused, spread too thin, and/or distracted by impossible dreams. (In most cases, you’re probably right!)

You will try to reason with them, challenge them, and even periodically guilt them into taking a more stable route in life, but you know how that goes…

You will find yourself rolling your eyes from time to time at their next “new big opportunity” and their inevitable “I’m so close” mantra.

Twitter Offers Enhanced Profiles to Advertisers Spending $25K+

by Miranda Miller, January 30, 2012
Twitter’s brand pages are about to become a lot more common. Advertisers with more than $25,000 in active orders are now eligible for the enhanced profiles. An email from a Twitter ad exec obtained by Ad Age lists the release date as Wednesday, February 1.

Back in December, Twitter announced their brand page program alongside their new user interface. At the time, they were offering the enhanced company profiles to a select group of 21 of their top advertisers, rumored to have spent more than $2 million per year each on Twitter advertising including Promoted Tweets, Accounts, and Trends.

We had a chance to speak with a few of those advertisers a few weeks ago. Bing and Coca-Cola both shared their experiences with Twitter’s brand pages and tips for the next generation of advertisers offered the enhanced profiles.

Social Media Maven & YouTube Expert Mia Davies is Presenting the Latest Online …
digitaljournal.com
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) January 29, 2012

There is no denying the power of marketing with social media in this day and age but it’s very important to understand exactly why this is such a powerful marketing platform. According to Gary Vaynerchuk, author of Crush It!, “Social media is bringing business back to small town “rules”- even in the biggest of urban communities. Word of mouth is more powerful than ever.” He also stated “brands can now reach a customer on a deep personal level that hasn’t really been possible before and the customers will respond…businesses and brands are being humanized.” According to Mia Davies, what social media makes possible for business is to establish a brand identity that engages customers so much that they naturally take action on the brand’s behalf. This is what is happening for business when this approach is done effectively.

As Mia Davies points out, “The fact that YouTube has become the second largest search engine on the Internet is a clear indicator of the demand for online video.” According to SocialMediaObservatory.com, online video is the single most powerful way to communicate on the Internet. Additionally, YouTube’s most recent statistics indicate that over 3 billion videos are watched every day on Youtube alone. The problem is that most small business owners, including San Diego business owners, don’t know how to properly use YouTube marketing to attract and retain more local customers to their business, so they never capitalize on this powerful free marketing strategy.

To learn more about marketing with social media with Mia Davies, see her live in San Diego at the grand opening of the The San Diego Business Experts. The San Diego Business Experts is an organization in which members have access to weekly networking opportunities and social media marketing classes. Attendees at this event will learn social media marketing strategies for YouTube and FaceBook specifically. Details for the kick off event of the San Diego Business Experts are as follows: On January 31, 2012 from 6pm to 9pm at The Dana Hotel, 1710 West Mission Bay Drive, San Diego, CA 92109. In order to get a complimentary ticket to the event, interested participants must register at: http://www.SDBusinessEvents.com . Those that are not in the San Diego area can learn more about marketing with social media from Mia Davies at http://www.miadavies.com/4-steps-to-social-media-success/. There are numerous resources online but as Mia points out, “The key when marketing with social media is to keep it simple, consistent and focus on offering value to your target audience. As long as you stick to what is proven to work in social media you will most likely have success but it never hurts to get the step-by-step training from other’s who have paved the way.”

Email Marketing Tricks: How to Write Your Email | Andy Jenkins Blog | Irreverence Rebellion and interweb marketing
http://www.andyjenkinsblog.com/2011/08/15/email-marketing-tricks-write-email/

When you’re marketing yourself or your products through email, you’re literally putting yourself out there. The way you write your copy and the way it’s formatted shows how much you care for its recipients. This is why it’s important to pour in a little bit of your heart in creating your email message to share the love.

I’ve made a small checklist of things you can remember to make your prospects feel the love. Check it out:

Optimize subject lines – Subject lines determine whether your email message gets opened by your recipients or if it gets the treatment of a cold shoulder. Have subject lines that are similar to call-to-actions – simple, concise and powerful.
Body size – You need to take note of your email body’s length. It’s a known fact that when it comes to email messages, people’s attention spans go way down. So you need to keep your email copy brief but and direct.
Drive that message of yours home, whether it’s in a sales letter or an affiliate offer.  Put in a nice image or two to show your prospects what you’re selling and give in. Let them have a little bit of everything so they don’t get bored or intimidated by your email.

Write email copy with VALUE – Whenever you’re thinking of an email message to send to your subscribers, remember to ask yourself these questions:
Is it going to add more knowledge to my subscriber?
Is it going to solve their most pressing problems?
Is it worth the time reading?

Sony grows Cyber-shot family by three with DSC-WX50 and WX70, ultra-thin TX200V

Sony grows Cyber-shot family by three with DSC-WX50 and WX70, ultra-thin TX200V
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/29/sony-cyber-shot-tx200v-wx50-wx70/

Far more svelte than its lengthy product name, the Cyber-shot DSC-TX200V is Sony’s new point-and-shoot flagship, packing an 18.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor, 26mm 5x optical zoom lens, 1080/60p video capture and a 3.3-inch Xtra Fine TruBlack OLED touchscreen. Sony claims that the cam’s BIONZ processor can help it capture stills and video with extremely low noise, and an improved focusing system can deliver speeds of about 0.13 seconds in daylight and 0.25 seconds in lower-light conditions. Its reflective durable housing enables waterproof shooting down to 16 feet, and can protect the camera from dust and freezing temperatures of 14 degrees Fahrenheit.

If price is more important to you than an ultra-thin design and top-of-the-line spec list, then the DSC-WX70 and DSC-WX50 might be of interest. Both cameras include 16.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensors, 25mm 5x optical zoom lenses, 12 megapixel stills during video capture, and 1080/60i HD shooting. There are nine “Picture Effects” options, adopted from the NEX series and also found on the TX200V. Both the WX50 and WX70 have a nearly identical list of features, though the first model includes a 2.7-inch display, compared to a 3-inch touchscreen on the WX70. All three cameras are expected to ship in March in a variety of colors. The TX200V will be available in silver, red and violet finishes with a retail price of $500, while the WX70 and WX50 will run you $230 and $200, respectively. Hit up the press release just past the break for the full list of colors and specs.

T-Mobile keen to help iPhone users, plans to offer new procedures for unlocked phones
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/29/t-mobile-keen-to-help-iphone-users-plans-to-offer-new-procedure/

The iPhone might not officially be on the magenta network, but T-Mobile isn’t about to turn its back on a million paying customers, either. According to a document obtained by TmoNews, the network plans to offer new “common procedures, information about feature and specifications and other basic device questions” to iPhone users starting Monday. T-Mobile has long had an open-door policy for customers with unlocked iPhones, since it doesn’t have its own to sell — though T-Mo CTO Neville Ray is hoping really hard that will change. Someday.
